Meet
Divorce Coach Robert Evans, Ph.D.
Bob Evans, or “Dr. Bob,” has recently brought a lifetime of
experience in education and training to Pinellas County.
With a well-rounded background in applied psychology and the
behavioral sciences, he now specializes in divorce coaching
in his private practice located in Safety Harbor.
Dr. Bob grew up in New York City (Queens) and after serving
in the U.S. Army in the mid-60s, he went to school at Long
Island University in Brooklyn, St. John’s University in
Jamaica, NY, and then to The Catholic University of America
in Washington, DC. After earning degrees in psychology,
school psychology and educational psychology, he worked as a
school psychologist in New York and Virginia. Soon he became
sought after by defense contractors not only for his
expertise in training and training research, but also for
facilitating support groups for children and families. Along
the way he also obtained strong skills in successfully
writing grants, and he ultimately taught grant writing.
Eventually he worked for the U.S. Department of the Army,
then the U.S. Navy, and then the U.S. Secretary of Defense,
which is when he was moved to Florida.
In the mid-80s Dr. Bob started working as a private,
licensed school psychologist in Longwood, Florida, where he
conducted psychological assessments and led self-esteem and
support groups. It was then that he really took notice of
the negative effects divorce has on children. “Sometimes
people in an adverse divorce situation alienate their
children away from the other parent,” Dr. Bob says. “When
there are no valid reasons for a child disliking a parent,
then this may be a diagnosable condition called Parental
Alienation Syndrome (PAS).”
Dr. Bob, who is himself a divorced father, has dedicated his
practice in Pinellas County to helping both professionals
and individuals with some of the adverse effects of divorce.
For instance, he trains attorneys in how to recognize PAS
and how to instruct their clients about what to do when they
are victims of this form of child abuse. He also helps
attorneys to understand divorcing people’s behavior and
feelings, including when their client is either the one
doing the alienating or the one being alienated.
The divorce situation can be even worse for women, Dr. Bob
points out, if the woman has been financially dependent.
“She may have no credit cards or bank assets in her own
name. The first thing I may help her with is getting these
basic things established.” In working as a coach,, he will
also help a divorcing person prepare for court, work with
her or his attorney more effectively, learn about parental
alienation, and with the many other issues and challenges
that arise during divorce proceedings. His website has
detailed information about his unique services.
Dr. Bob and his wife, who is a life-balance coach, moved
from Longwood to be nearer one of their daughters. When they
are not out looking for a house, they take salsa dancing
lessons and Dr. Bob is a senior member of the Civil Air
Patrol because, ultimately, he wants to learn to fly.
