Meet Mortgage Broker Deborah
Vickers
Did you know that the simple act of checking
your credit causes your credit score to drop a little – and
that this happens every time you apply for credit and your
credit report is “pulled”? If you are shopping for a
mortgage, for instance, and you apply to half a dozen
different mortgage lenders, your credit score drops a little
bit six times.
One of the biggest advantages of using a
mortgage broker such as Deborah Vickers is that she has
access to 500 different lenders and she only has to pull
your credit one time to shop the best interest rate
from among those 500. And as for getting the best rate,
“Your credit score drives the whole thing,” Deborah says.
Deborah loves helping people find their first
home or maximizing the use of the equity in their present
home. She also can help you find a lower interest rate for
credit card or general loan consolidation. A 32-year veteran
of Verizon Communications where she managed two call centers
in
Florida
and Illinois, Deborah consciously chose the mortgage
business for her second career, and some three years later,
says she is very happy with her choice. Not coincidentally,
her daughter works for the same company, but is based in
Winter Haven,
Florida. Mother and daughter handle clients throughout
Florida,
Tennessee and New York for Manhattan Mortgage Corporation.
The typical fee for a mortgage broker, says
Deborah, is 1-2 percent of the loan amount and for that, the
client receives a wide array of services such as securing
the most favorable loan, proper insurance coverage, pest
control, termite inspection, home inspection, title company,
and a real estate attorney if needed. “I am in this until
the process is complete,” says Deborah, who points out that
these days it is common for real estate agents to partner
with mortgage brokers.
Deborah’s other passion is traveling the world,
and for the last 20 years has planned trips accordingly. She
just returned from her “most exotic” trip to date: two weeks
visiting the
Galapagos
Islands
and
Ecuador.
Later this year she will travel to Iceland with her partner
of 11 years. They are torn between
Greece
and Alaska for next year’s big trip. At home in Tampa, they
care for Diamond and Murray, a 13-year-old mixed terrier-Lab
and a 13-year-old mixed terrier-boxer, who also get treated
to puppy vacations regularly.
